Picnic on the Moon is a “tableau vivant” in which two characters are enjoying a picnic in the sun, with a light breeze wafting through their hair. The setting is idyllic, the décor perfect, the scenario ideal. Each object is exactly where it should be. It is all too perfect to be real. What would happen if the sun were not really the sun, and the breeze were not the breeze? And if we were puppets that a child is innocently playing with? Picnic on the Moon grew out of an image, which marked the starting-point. How would this image move? Who would move it? Is it real? The piece explores the contrast between an apparently perfect reality and an interior that is deserted.
Approximate duration: 15 min.
Júlia Godino Llorens and Alexa Moya Panksep are Barcelona-born dancers and choreographers, both of whom graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance from the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (deSingel). They have both collaborated separately in various projects and today belong to The Backyard, a group of emerging artists based in Antwerp, in which they develop their own projects as a duet. Picnic on the Moon received its performance at the Sismògraf d’Olot festival in 2019. Since then, it has been performed in several cities and festivals in Belgium and Spain. The piece was awarded the jury’s first prize and the audience prize in the Sabadell Choreographic Event, and was a finalist in the Madrid Choreographic Contest.
